The Hills Amateur Radio Group had a successful day at the Pickering Brook Show on Saturday 7 May 2011.
Both HF and VHF sites were set up. VHF access to repeaters was limited, HF was reasonably successful with a few overseas contacts being made. An SDR (software Defined Radio) did attract some interest, must be the computer screens !
We had limited interest shown from the general public as our location did not work out quite as well as expected, resulting in a low "capture" rate of passing public. Lessons were learnt, which will be put into place next time.
Club Members attending were Bill VK6WJ, Richard VK6BMW, Martin VK6ZMS, Marty VK6FDX, Allan VK6PWD, Onno VK6FLAB, Craig VK6FLAM, John VK6FJON and Steve VK6IR. Other visitors were - Jim VK6JIM, Steve VK6CS and Phil VK6ZKO.
We did not have many visitors from the general public but Phil from the Army Vintage Vehicle Display was very interested and amazed at the small size of our rigs as he had just been learning how to operate a No 19 set!
