Over the bands it is regularly stated that having an F-call Amateur license is a waste of time and that "you should upgrade" - while there are many reasons to upgrade your license, there are many reasons that an F-call is very useful and an excellent start in the Amateur Radio field.
During the weekly Western Australia's Amateur Radio News, NewsWest, Onno (VK6FLAB), produces and hosts a segment called "What use is an F-call?" This segment is now also broadcast on the WIA National News.
If you're new to the hobby, why not join in the journey that new F-calls go through and see what it takes to be part of the wonderful world of Amateur Radio?
Got an observation or suggestion?
We regularly receive emails from listeners. If you have a comment or suggestion to make, please feel free to drop the host a line. We're always looking for ideas on topics to discuss and ideas to think about. You should know that we try hard to make this segment independent of any state or club, so please don't expect a mention for your event, that's not what this series is about.
There is no charge or form to complete but if you'd like to use these audio segments in your own broadcast, you are required to broadcast them in sequence (because they refer back on occasion and it will just sound silly if you don't) and in their entirety (because we really don't like being quoted out of context). We also require that you send us an email to let us know.
From a production perspective, there are no dates within the audio, it's a 256k/bit mp3 in glorious mono - since we broadcast this on Western Australia's Amateur Radio News, NewsWest.
